Review of The Living Daylights (1987) by Alison C — 22 Nov 2014
I haven't seen many Bond movies, but this might be my least favorite. I should just link you to what Ebert had to say about it because I agree with everything he had to say about this. This movie takes itself way too seriously.
It has the same elements of humor and ridiculous action stuff but the serious tone makes those goofy elements super dissonant and makes them feel so stupid. Sledding on a cello case? Really? The Bond girl is probly the worst one I've ever seen.
She's not a bombshell like a Bond girl should be. She's just too plain and boring and innocent to belong. This movie thinks that it's The Third Man. IT WISHES! There are some things I do like.
I like the action scene of Bond and Necros fighting while hanging on a net/bag out of the back of a plane. I don't mind Timothy Dalton. He doesn't pull off the humor as well as the others can.
My favorite part the the movie was Necros, the cool, calculated, super-efficient, gorgeous blond henchman. Those kinds of characters are usually mind-less mooks. A badass hot bad guy is right up my alley.
And it's always nice to see John Terry, however briefly.
