Review of The Lives of Others (2006) by Steve S — 12 Mar 2010
I did not know what to expect when I put this movie in, but the minute it ended I found myself here, writing its praises. What an amazing story about humanity, both its cruelty and its beauty. I admit that you really have to invest a lot of time an effort upfront, but if you do, the payoff is huge! I am filled with emotion, and I am in awe of this masterpiece.
I will never, ever forget the final words of the movie. When asked if he wants his book wrapped, Wiesman says, "No; it's for me." To be able to sum up an entire movie in so few words is absolutely masterful.
I have not seen a movie this good in a very long time!
