Review of The Lives of Others (2006) by Jerry C — 04 Apr 2010
Extremely compelling and a must watch. Donnersmarck takes you back in time where Stasi encroaches lives and spirits of GDR denizens. Ulrich Muhe is stunningly convincing as an Stasi officer who who is struggling with the politically ravaged communism. Communism that he so desperately fought for. In the process of surveillance of a socialistic, passionate artist couple he himself matures not just as a person, but as a human. The ending is perfect and one of the best.
This is not an instant gratification movie No sire.. it unravels slowly as you entangle your own opinions, ideals with protagonist HGW/XX7 .
