A look back at life in East Germany before the fall of Communism and collapse of the Berlin Wall in 1989. By the 1980s, the East German secret police, the Stasi, had perfected the art of covert surveillance and compiled extensive dossiers on its citizens; they were the state that Orwell warned of in 1984.
There were comparisons between this film and the Patriot Act-era USA.
