Review of The Lives of Others (2006) by Mohamed F — 13 Mar 2010
I actually started watching this film quite sometime ago but I had to quit because the subtitles were poorly timed that it got distracting. Anyway, this film upset "Pan's Labyrinth" for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar and although I personally would not have voted for it over "Pan", I can still understand why it won.
Ulrich Muhe gives a great performance (the range and transformation he had to go through was seamless) as an East German officer spying on possible dissidents. This film gets better as it moves along and is very well-directed.
