Review of The Lives of Others (2006) by Ryan K — 06 Apr 2010
"The Lives of Others" was a very moving film about how love, in all of its forms, can overcome great adversity. The film takes place in East Germany in the 80s and the secret police are trying to move in on the theater crowd and weed out "traitors".
An old professional surveillance expert is put on the case of a young couple of lovers who are planning to write a report that would discredit the regime and get it out to the west. In his surveillance, Captain Wiesler begins to see what true love looks like and realizes how lonely he really is.
As the case gets more complicated the stakes raise and the suspense builds. I recommend it wholeheartedly.
