Detailed Contents:
The Lives of Others has been rated 12 for moderate sex and nudity. There are several scenes of partial nudity; people are seen naked from behind and breasts are partially exposed. There are two scenes of a moderate sexual nature. A prostitute is seen straddling a man, little nudity is seen, but the scene leaves little to the imagination. In another, a man forces himself upon a woman, groping her breast and kissing her on the lips. The scenes isn't overly agressive in nature but it lies at the higher end of what would be acceptable at a 12 rating.
There is also a scene where a woman is fatally struck by a vehicle. Lying in the road, she is surrounded by a pool of blood. Despite the mildly bloody nature of the accident, the scene does not dwell on injury and would have been acceptable at PG.
Finally, in the opening scenes we are shown a man undergoing a form of psychological torture. While the scene is slightly distressing it would have been acceptable at a PG rating.
BBFC Rating: 15.
