Review of The Lives of Others (2006) by Philip H — 08 Jul 2010
Ah, Das Leben der Anderen, what bad thing could I say about you? :D Das Leben der Anderen is a gripping tale of the life in East Berlin before the fall of Berlin Wall. this film starts out mundane, as its cinematography.
.. then it gets intense, once the "bugs" are in place and the cover-up begins. Historically, the story might as well be set in the Philippines. In East Berlin, they had the totalitarian rule of the GDR.
here, we had Marcos. Culturally, it speaks to me, that we're not really so different from Germans or for any people of any nation for that matter... the protagonist Wiesler comes off as creepy but in the end, it is through his journey that we'd realize we're all the same.
we all have a sense of right. it's just that we decide differently on how we'd act on it. and yes, did I mention the ending? hay, what's not to love? endearing, hands down.
