Review of The Lives of Others (2006) by Emma B — 03 Aug 2010
*RT ate my reply*.
But basically, this was a great movie. Presents an interesting situation with the secret police spying on the writer, but then goes so much deeper into a good story when it chooses to focus on the spy himself and how he justifies (or doesn't) his life. This is called tapping into the true potential of the story, and it provides with a deeply interesting, yet also very sad look into the man's life.
I wasn't too big on the epilogue at the end, it felt a bit like overexposure, and I would have ended the movie maybe 10 minutes early, at the height of the climax. But that can really be my only complaint.
