Review of The Lives of Others (2006) by Ricardo R — 03 Jan 2011
A nuanced look at the Stasi regime that gives a great sense of the period. The film is full of cvharaters that compliment each other very well.
Artistic themes however becomes overbearing. There was then more focus on plot when it should have narrowed in on the characters. The main character had no understanding of the politics of the regime and hence the corruption. He was essentially used for a ministers wishes to discredit an artist. This becomes the central moral test of the film.
