Review of The Lives of Others (2006) by Augustine H — 04 Nov 2012
One of the most intriguing and involving movie I have ever seen. It starts as a so-so anti-Communism film depicting the harsh environment under the Communist regime. Ulrich Mühe, the leading character seems to be a ruthless evil that we should be resent of.
But then , it transits into a film of conscience and empathy over the hiding of a conspiracy. The audience starts to be involved into the lives of others as him. The tragic outcome and the final ending are so true in reflecting the destiny of Communist oppression.
