Review of The Little Prince (2015) by Galen R — 14 Mar 2016
Split between two styles the movie intercuts between a gorgeous stop-motion retelling of the book and a CG story about a little girl building a relationship with an old aviator who stands in as the book's author. The girl's story acts as both a framing narrative and a sequel of sorts to the book, it reflects back the themes of the book in some interesting and topical ways. You could argue that the girl's story is basically there to soften the somewhat dark ending of the book but I feel the girl's story is careful to avoid enough of the hollywood happy ending pitfalls to still feel consistent with the themes and philosophy of the book.
This film has had a weird release schedule and Paramount dropped the US release but thankfully the Canadian distributor followed through on a wide release and I highly recommend seeing it if you get the chance.
