Review of The Little Prince (2015) by Joshua W — 08 Aug 2016
"Once when I was six years old...".
What once began one of the most beloved fables of all time now begins one of very, very best films of the year.
Rather than being a straight adaptation of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's novella, THE LITTLE PRINCE centers around a Little Girl (Mackenzie Foy) whose overbearing Mother (Rachel McAdams) has provided her with an over-the-top life plan. The Little Girl is about to grow up too fast, just like the world around her has. A child is about to give up childhood forever...until something miraculous happens.
Upon meeting the eccentric yet gentle Aviator (Jeff Bridges), she is regaled with the story of an extraordinary person he met decades before: the Little Prince (newcomer Riley Osborne). The Little Girl ultimately learns what has become an important saying: What is essential is invisible to the eye.
With a stellar voice cast, beautiful CGI and stop-motion animation, a compelling and moving story, and faithfulness to the themes of the source material, THE LITTLE PRINCE is truly a story that no family should live without. After all, "growing up is not the problem. Forgetting is.".
