Review of The Little Prince (2015) by Joshua T — 12 Aug 2016
In a day when most movies glorify the decrepity of society and magnify infidelity and materialism comes a wholesome family story with an actual moral to teach. For me, the fox said it all: "One sees clearly only with the heart. What is essential is invisible to the eyes.".
The movie is really about the author, who is elderly in the movie (died at age 44 in real life) telling his story to a young impressionable girl who has yet to give in and become that "perfect adult" (i.e. work machine) that her mother wants her to be. In the end, the story shows that materialism, vanity, and endless seeking for something better will always end in failure. Love is elevated above all those things and even the little girl is able to get her mother to actually hug her and appreciate the things her daughter is interested in... even if some of them seem to be overly creative, unproductive things.
