Review of The Little Prince (1974) by Justine M — 05 Feb 2009
I think this is an absolutely perfect film adaptation of the best children's book ever written. Not only does it completely embody the charm and whimsy of the original story, but it also captures the wit and intelligence of the deeper meanings of various plot points.
Also, it adds a couple of new characters of its own that add to the story even further. Steven Warner is perfectly cast as the title character, and I couldn't imagine anyone but Bob Fosse as the Snake and Gene Wilder as the Fox.
Richard Kiley also holds his own very well as the pilot who crashes in the middle of the Saraha desert, only to be confronted by The Little Prince who brings back to life the inner childhood, not only in the pilot, but in all of us.
Lerner and Loewe's songs are fun and stick with you long after the film has finished. The lyrics are catchy and fun, and I honestly can't thing of a single bad aspect of this film. I just adore everything about it, just as I do the original book, which is one of my all-time favourite books.
