Review of The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning (2008) by Peter C — 28 Aug 2008
By far the best Disney animation for a Direct-to-DVD or Video sequel they've ever had, and it also gets a star for having Ariel in it, but as far as the movie, I thought it really missed the mark. For Ariel's Beginning, it didn't answer any of the questions the first movie poses, besides why Ariel's mother isn't there, and that is a very short sequence, leaving us no room to really get to know her mom.
I was very disappointed, and Marina Del Ray has to be one of the worst Disney Villains ever. Why was Ursula banished? Why does Ariel love the human world so much? Also, I hated how they completely disregarded the entire TV series as if it never happened.
None of these questions were even touched upon in this movie. I have to say, it was a bright spot to get to know her sisters a little better though.
