Review of The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning (2008) by Lucia S — 28 Aug 2008
A cute movie that was a lot better than other Disney sequels of much beloved classics. While the original still takes the cake, this one does have heart and you can easily see that the filmmakers took great pains to make this a quality project.
While I realize that this is more than anything a kid's film, I kind of wish that the ending wouldn't have been so anti-climactic. Sally Field was a riot and Jodie Benson good as always...but I felt that the Marina character wasn't so much a villian but instead a clumsy, ambitious, and frustrated working stiff.
Can't we all relate to that?! In the end, it's a fun film to watch--by no means a 'must see'. After the first viewing you can go for a while without really missing it.
