Review of The Little Mermaid (1989) by Brandon C — 12 Aug 2016
Following a 3 week trip to Disney (staying in the Little mermaid rooms) it was time to watch this classic Disney film as I had a really poor recollection of it. My memories as a child of this film were that it was longer and I think this is true of most Disney films.
The main songs are all catchy and maybe just suffer with the amount they have been played since the films initial release. I thought that this film fit nicely within Disney's set of princess movies with both main leads falling in love at first sight.
This tends to not happen so much any longer with characters requiring more time and a series of events to occur before they fall in love. For this reason I did find it a bit basic and didn't really a relationship developed between the characters.
Flounder also had significantly less to do with the story than I remember with Sebastian being the main comic sidekick. All in all I the film kept my attention and I enjoyed the main musical numbers.
