Review of The Little Mermaid (1989) by Matt G — 09 Apr 2017
The Little Mermaid story is simple, but it's elegantly and magically simple. A cool allegory for growing up, we see a young woman find her own way, with all the highs and lows that come with it. It features Disney's biggest step-up in animation since Pinocchio (ship sinking is pretty spectacular, for example), the humor is hilarious (and fully for kids), Ursula is perfect, Ariel has my favorite princess singing voice, and at least 3 of the songs are straight-up masterpieces.
