Review of The Little Mermaid (1989) by Barry N — 03 Aug 2011
The Little Mermaid is a very pure and very high-spirited film that Disney should be proud to have a part of their canon. And why shouldn't they? It's greatly animated, it's energetic, it's fun, and it has a great heart. Plus they also have one of the greatest Disney villains ever; Ursula. Now the film does have a problematic idea of selling your soul that could be a little troubling, but other than that this film is just great. The songs in this film are original, engaging and very catchy. I didn't watch this film for a very long time because I didn't think that I would like it very much, quite simply because it seemed too girly, but that would be a mistake. This is a film for everybody, in my opinion. With a great climax, memorable characters and beautiful animation, how can you go wrong with The Little Mermaid?
9.6/10.
