Review of The Little Mermaid (1989) by Adam S — 14 Dec 2012
This movie spawned an entire golden age for Disney Animation - hardly a mean feat.
I'm going to go out and say that I don't like this particular Disney film as much as some of the films that came afterwards, like, say "Aladdin" and "The Lion King", but it's still definitely a fun movie, with pros and cons.
On the plus side, I tend to agree with the large portion of Disney fans who rank Ursula among the great Disney villains. The supporting cast of anthropomorphic animals do not disappoint, especially Sebastian the Crab, who even sings perhaps my favourite Disney song in "Under the Sea".
On the negative side, the obligatory "Prince Charming", this time going by the name of Eric, is a very 2 dimensional character, with not much going for him except as a target for Ariel.
It's a huge improvement over some of the 80's Disney fare, but it's not foolproof.
