Review of The Lion King (1994) by Christopher E — 20 Jun 2013
This is probably Disney's best ever film. There animation is good. The story is a fine balance of which would interest both children and adults (and that's a difficult thing to do well). I liked all the characters and even Timon and Pumba weren't annoying as the bone chucked in for children usually is. The score by Han Zimmer is very powerful for a Disney flick.
The scenes were moving, and yes the characters do stay dead with was something worth the risk. The singing is actually quite easy to catch on to. The villain has basic attributes but is more relevant than usual bland Disney villains. Nice to have a reason to be evil than 'hur hur I am evil because I am, and I want to rule the world hur hur hur' I would usually expect from Disney. Scar makes no secret of his jealously of his brother and desire to rule the kingdom and it works.
The drama is great too. Some very moving moments and a good sense of adventure too. A great example of family viewing.
