Review of The Lion King 1½ (2004) by Britt F — 01 Apr 2009
We open with the start of The Lion King, with the overrated Elton John music, and bunch of pious animals rushing off to be boring. And then, we hear 'Well enough of that' and Timon fast-forwards the film to where he and Pumbaa come in. If that sounds like a relief and funny too, you'll love this film. If you're offended, go away now.
This is the irreverent and very funny tale of the self-involved Timon the meercat, and how he and his acquaintance Pumbaa the warthog were in the early scenes of The Lion King, but how it was very different from their point of view.
For me, this is a well-needed antidote to the sombre seriousness of the first film. Some of the jokes are a little lame, but overall it is very witty, quotable, and had me laughing loudly. It gets a little too serious towards the end, but other than that, this is a Disney classic that finally, adults really can enjoy.
