Review of The Lincoln Lawyer (2011) by Matthew C — 12 Oct 2012

Matthew McConaughey does really tie this all together in what could have easily been the unsophisticated seen-it-before lawyer learns some wisdom of movies past. But this courtroom thriller rises to new heights in large part to the character flair that we haven't seen before.

Mick is an unusual lawyer in that he's still still a good man though he lies most of the time. He does want to be a better man and father. But the story of his parenting and relationship with Tomei's character is sacrificed at times for uncovering the mysteries.

First problem in a series that halts the rise of this film. Ryan Phillippe, while creepy at times, doesn't turn out to be all he could have been. Even Macy's character isn't given that scene that could have made his character memorable.

All in all, this movie, while good, is no where near great.
