Review of The Lincoln Lawyer (2011) by Graham B — 23 Jun 2014
The dawn of the McConaughssance begins with this stylish noiresque crime thriller. McConaughey stars as a low rent attourney who works out of his Lincoln towncar. He is hired to defend a rich kid accused of attempted rape and murder. Investigating the crime, he begins to doubt the innocence of his client and the story becomes a masterclass of manipulation as he finds himself in too deep.
The script is in need of an edit. Twists are revealed quite quickly and plausibility comes into doubt. The talented cast deals with this brilliantly and you are left with a rather gripping thriller instead of a run-of-the-mill courtroom drama.
