Review of The Limits of Control (2009) by Nathan F — 07 May 2009
Definitely Jarmush's most challenging film. I wasn't quite sure what to make of it except that it probably came to Jim in an acid trip while backpacking in Europe. I agree with the Antonioni "The Passenger" and Melville "Le Samourai" comparisons but this is a Jarmusch film through and through.
I can only recommend it for people who loved "Ghost Dog" and the pace of a movie like "Slacker" or "Waking Life". And like most Jarmusch films, the slow pace is trumped by the payoff.
The ending is amazing.
