Review of The Limits of Control (2009) by Augusto A — 03 Feb 2010
The movie's perfect on the technical side of things. I've got absolutely nothing to complain about the cinematography, the art direction, the sound design or the music. The way Jarmusch works with time (and more specifically, the passing of time) is terrific.
Every single shot is stunning and the movie is very moody, very atmospheric. Too bad everything else revolves around unnatural exchanges between characters spewing pseudo-philosophical crap at each other, that very same anchor that keeps me from enjoying most of his films completely.
I didn't think it was as boring as some people do, and it is a gorgeous and very well made movie, but it left me pretty cold. I know it would probably make the movie even less accessible than it already is, but I kinda wish there was even less dialogue here and that everything we needed to know was told through visuals.
