Review of The Limits of Control (2009) by Mike D — 15 Jul 2010
Isaach De Bankol plays an assassin whose next hit is unconvential- he isn't given the reasons why he is to kill his target and the only way for him to reachby folliowing an instruction hidden in a book of matches- this leads him to his next contact who supplies him with another matchbook with more instructions. He always eats the instructions too, so if he doesn't get whacked himself, there's a good chane his intestines will be blocked up.
If this sounds intriguing on paper (no pun intended) on film it's almost unbearable. I like Jarmusch's earlier stuff like "Mystery Train" and "Permanent Vacation", and I loved "Ghost Dog" but this is just a slow, pointless, pretentious and dull movie that is basically a low concept gimmick in search of a story. I have no idea why Bernal, Murray and Hurt wasted their time- Murray should go back to making comedies. The only good thing in this is that we get to see Paz de la Huerta nude. This is Grade Z. Z for zzzzzzzzz, that is.
