Review of The Limits of Control (2009) by Alex F — 12 Feb 2011
Boring, pretentious crap. It started well enough, creating a lot of intrigue, but never lived up to this promise. It basically then just drifts for nearly two hours. Nothing happens, except a lot of navel-gazing and silence.
I generally liked Jim Jarmusch's movies, but wasn't a huge fan - found his movies rather hit or miss. Down by Law, Dead Man and Broken Flowers were good, Coffee and Cigarettes was interesting for the period over which it was filmed and all the stars that appear. His movies always bordered on the pretentious but always had enough real meaning, plot and good performances in them to be entertaining. This time, however, he has disappeared up his own rear end.
