Review of The Limey (1999) by Srikanth M — 19 Aug 2012
Brilliant Soderbergh. Brilliant Lem Dobbs. Haywire, which both of them made recently, is almost like a retread of this but without the emotional edge. I am fascinated by Dobbs' penchant for character driven movies.
He should write more. The editing is superb; the layering of scenes gives this movie a contemplative, moody texture. It takes us closer to the innermost feelings of the characters. The photography is outstanding.
My only gripe is with Terence Stamp. He is a little loud and wooden. It would have gained a lot more from a better leading man. An unsung masterpiece.
