Review of The Limey (1999) by Donald W — 04 Jun 2007
Great film and an awesome performance by Terrance Stamp. Interesting story about a British criminal just emerging from prison to find out his estranged daughter died mysteriously in Los Angeles. A fish out of water drama as "the Limey" travels to Los Angeles to find out what happened to her and make those responsible, pay.
The use of cockney slang adds to the alienation of the character from his surroundings, as much as his violent but methodical ways differentiate him from the people he is investigating. An interesting plot device are the flashbacks of Stamp and his daughter, which really do look like a 20 year younger Terrance Stamp, because the producers of this movie bought a little known movie Stamp was in 20 years before portraying a man about to pull off a robbery and wove the clips into the plot of this movie as the background.
Very interesting. Great film making.
