Review of The Limey (1999) by Spencer T — 14 Dec 2008
The best Soderbergh I've seen yet. With him, it's either very hit or very miss with me. This was very hit. I enjoyed every second of it, from the fractured editing style, to the extremely original performances from Stamp, Fonda, Guzman, and the speechless turn from Melissa George, who is turning up in everything I see lately.
It's a run-of-the-mill revenge flick, but it's got one of the best car chases, one of the best shootout scenes, some of the best dialogue, and some of the best characters in this genre of film.
From the subtleties of Guzman's character wearing a different dictator shirt in every scene, to the English gibberish spewing from Stamp, 'The Limey' is quite enjoyable and memorable.
