Review of The Light Between Oceans (2016) by Ryan F — 06 Sep 2016
I'm giving The Light Between Oceans 3 stars because Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender give amazing performances. I liked the way the characters (especially Vikander and Fassbender) were developed and I liked how Fassbender had to face the moral dilemma that was at the heart of the movie .
BUT............ the movie itself, on the other hand, was predictable and far fetched. Nobody really explained (or explained very well) why the baby and her deceased father just happened to be floating in a life boat toward the island in the first place.
Just seemed too convenient to the story and very predictable. Also predictable was how the story developed with the birth mother. The movie was visually stunning (especially if you're an ocean lover) but the movie was depressing and ripped your heart out a few too many times.
Like I mentioned earlier, what saved this movie were the incredibly amazing performances by Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender.
