Review of The Light Between Oceans (2016) by Ezgi E — 27 Dec 2016
Some novels should never be adapted into movies. That one should have certainly stayed as a novel. However, if you want to adapt it, then you should hire a skilled director, a good screenwriter and believable actors!
There is absolutely no need to show flashback scenes of Rachel Weisz's husband and her..the ending should have been altered to make a more powerful movie, but it stretched far too long.
While watching Alicia Vikander, I had to think over and over again, how Hollywood pushes hard to make her happen, or rather made her happen by buying her an Oscar. I admit, her acting in "The Danish Girl" is great, but in all of her other roles, she is mediocre to terrible. Here, she is terrible. She overacts, tries too hard and her voice when she shouts, is outrageous. She is also very very plain, sometimes even hideous, thus not fitting to be a movie star. Please take a break and advance your acting, girl!
Fassbender is okay, but not very convincing in his role. He's underwhelming nowadays. In all of his movies.
If the movie was directed by a female director, everyone would label it as a chick-flick, as the movie is extremely cheesy and melodramatic. Since the director is male, "70" fresh reviews seem to praise the presence of HIGH emotions...
