Review of The Lifeguard (2013) by Sebastyen D — 03 Aug 2013
This film has Kristen Bell, in a more low key performance than I've seen from her in the past, as a woman about to turn 30 who suddenly quits her job and moves back to her hometown to live with her parents and resume her high school job as a lifeguard.
She seems to want to be a teenager again, and actually starts an affair with a teenage slacker who hangs out at the complex where she is working. Now that couldn't lead to anything bad could it? Hard to watch at times and somewhat unbelievable.
As an indy type movie this film seems to be trying to say something about early life career crisis and trying to recapture your youth... but it's too bleak an attempt and it is hard to get behind Bell's character as she keeps making bad choices.
