Review of The Life of David Gale (2003) by Shannon R — 30 Mar 2008
Nothing I hate worse than great actors in bad films. This is one of them. This film had so much promise and the premise is not half bad. The acting is even pretty good. The opening is great and hooks you - the speech Prof.
Gale gives is even quite interesting about 'desires and fantasies' and I even liked the energy between Kate and Kevin, however the plot and subplots turn sour quickly. They try to surprise and shock us with revelations we already figured out and then it just goes on & on, with more discoveries of more footage of the tape to the point I WANTED TO HIT DELETE to the whole film.
A good premise that got lost in the director or writers own delusions of how they wanted to end this film (and you can see by the way they filmed it, they had several ways they could have ended it, unfortunately they picked the worst and most unbelievable one) and we (the audience) waste 2 hours of our time to get there.
