Review of The Life of David Gale (2003) by Anne B — 02 Sep 2008
One of my favorite things about this film is you cannot guess the ending for the life of you! Against the grain. Proving "the system" wrong and capital punishment is already a touchy subject. I love how Gale's character teaches in his class of students that part of the fantasy of life and wanting what you don't have is that when you get what you thought was unattainable, you no longer want it anymore because we over-romanticise things so much in our heads we lose any grasp of the reality. When it's becomes an every day reality, it becomes mundane.
This film stays with you.
