Review of The Life of David Gale (2003) by Barbara O — 08 Nov 2008
While certainly not immaculate, one of the most thought-provoking films I've ever seen. the fact that this film doesn't take a clear side has repeatedly labelled one of its biggest weaknesses, but I would consider it a strength.
the characters in "...david gale" cannot easily be grouped in good (or martyr) and bad guys, instead the film evolves into a profound character study that doesn't provide the spectator with a clear opinion, but forces him or her to make up his or her own mind - if s/he ignores those harsh reviews by people who obviously weren't willing to do so.
