Review of The Life of David Gale (2003) by Michael S — 29 Apr 2009
I know a lot of people who didn't like this movie. However, I found it to be quite engaging and thought provoking. It's plot is one that turns on a dime about a third of the way through (don't worry.
..not spoiling anything) and the remainder of the film is a strange journey towards a great climax. Taking on the Capital Punishment debate, this film doesn't quite have the impact of 'Dead Man Walking' nor are the performances, although very solid (especially Laura Linney's portrayal), as grippng as Sean Penn's or Susan Sarandon's in the Tim Robbins drama.
Despite that, the movie delivers a powerful message, a clever suckerpunch and is a thrill throughout.
