Review of The Life of David Gale (2003) by Emilia P — 23 Nov 2009
As a film, The Life of David Gale is an utter failure. It has a heavy handed political message, one of the worst endings in recent memory, and oh so many plot devices used to achieve that terrible ending. I don't think I could've been angrier when Kate Winslet's car starts to break down toward the end.
As a sum of its parts, the movie is not a complete wash. Winslet and Spacey both give decent performances, unfortunately both are well below what they are capable of. Unfortunately, the film does so many bad things that it completely erases anything I remotely liked.
Oh yeah, and I guessed the twist ending about 20 minutes into the movie. This movie should not have even HAD a twist ending.
