Review of The Life of David Gale (2003) by Lee B — 26 Nov 2010
It's almost a unanimous view that The Life Of David Gale is a bad film, but I don't side with that view, not at all. The Life Of David Gale is a thought-provoking piece of cinema that for me excels on every level, with Kevin Spacey delivering possibly one of his finest performances.
He brings to the character everything and more. It's that good, it's almost menacing. Kate Winslet also delivers a noteworthy role here. Sure the script isn't fantastic, but the uniqueness, the enthralling method of storytelling and Spacey's performance combined are enough for me to overlook the flaws, and yes it has some.
This is a prime example of how I feel seperated from the rest of movie-lovers knowing that they hated this film, and I, pardon my french, fucking loved it. Jaw-dropping, frustrating conclusion, but a very clever one.
Awesome.
