Review of The Life of David Gale (2003) by Ken B — 05 Jun 2011
Characters in this movie are cartoonishly unrealistic and badly acted. I've seen Kevin Spacey give good performances so I blame the director. The messages were so hamfisted, the plot and its' would-be-surprise-twists so obvious that I felt like I was watching something for children.
You've the reporter who believes this guy's guilty so strongly it screams, "she'll be convinced otherwise". The helpful, hopeful, sidekick. Some idealists and forgettable characters.
You can tell the script-writeers are more openly flamingly liberal than most in Hollywood as bullshit like "most serial killers vote republican" is stated as fact and the would-be villain wears a cowboy hat when he's supposed to seem menacing. You know you're too liberal when cowboys scare you.
SPOILERS.
Here's the whole story: folks against the death penalty conspire to sacrifice themselves by commiting suicide, framing one of their fraternity to get him killed on death row, and releasing a video of their actions to somehow eliminate the death penalty. Sound nonsensical? That's what the movie's like.
