Review of The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004) by Jason J — 28 Aug 2010
Famous oceanographer Steve Zissou and his motley crew sail on an adventure to find the mythical Jaguar Shark which is responsible for the death of Steve's close friend and partner.
A unique comedy movie. It's something of a collage of colourful imagery, quirky music, strange characters, bizarre situations, and amusing montages. There are some wonderful acting performances throughout, including an exuberant Bill Murray, who just loses himself in the character of Zissou. Director Wes Anderson gives us some excellent cinematography with some great CGI, depicting marine life in a very retro fashion, and beautiful landscapes, as well as a very well put-together soundtrack. The script is also very well written. All in all, the movie was stellar and grabbed my attention from beginning to end, although, it is definitely one of those films that you either like or dislike, and I obviously liked it. Recommended.
