Review of The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004) by Luke C — 09 Jun 2012
Definitely my favorite Wes Anderson movie. I see and hear so much negativity about this film and it just makes me want to pull my hair out. I can't for the life of me figure out why some people really dislike this film; yet at the same time, I can't explain why I love it so much.
Yes, Wes' movies to be very quirky. And I get that that isn't everyone's bag, so to speak. There are a dozen scenes in this movie that just make me really happy. The characters might not be elegant but they're real.
As surreal and quirky as Wes Anderson's films are, I feel like all his characters are very real. It's like, in a way, a lot of movies are these pompous asses that you feel out of place with, and Anderson's movies are like a good friend who knows you and who can make you laugh.
