Review of The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004) by Robin A — 12 Aug 2012
I did like this one although ultimately the quirky story never felt as trippy as a Tim Burton flick or supernatural enough to believable but rather made me question the choices made.
A wonderful mix of characters is however lightening up the movie a great deal and I'd say my favourite is Steve's wife. Unfortunately she isn't there for real until late in the story.
Bill Murrey seems almost to fit his role a little too well which begs the question if he was handpick because he fit so well or if the movie is written more to suit Bill...
The fact that Steve "shoot's blank" is only mentioned and never explained or developed which is odd considering no one really knows anyway if he really was Ned's father in the first place.
The stomach-punch-turn right before the climax hits you unexpectedly and the ending serves as a quite fine departure.
Overall I'm positive but it's still perhaps to light and inconsistent to deserve a better rate.
