Review of The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004) by Ken K — 05 Jun 2014
Here is the question: How can a great director/writer such as Wes Anderson take all these wonderful, comedic actors and actresses and make such a lifeless, slow film? Bill Murray could literally read the phone book and I would laugh and Owen Wilson has much the same talent.
Throw in all the other greats and all he would have needed is an average script to make this hilarious. The premise is begging for more and yet the direction and it's restraint holds this back and creates a clunker.
Here is another question, why would Criterion waste all it's amazing resources to remaster this poor excuse for a comedy? I will say this they did a great job on that part. I am almost sad to diss this film, but I have watched it twice with the same reaction.
..Not funny or entertaining at all. Sorry! Ken K.
