I'm a fan of Director/Writer Wes Anderson, and Life Aquatic stands out as my favorite of his films. It has the quirky trademarks of all Anderson productions: oddball characters, nonsensical situations, witty dialogue, and a great musical score.
It also makes us care about these strange characters, packs an emotional punch, and left me feeling far more engaged than most films despite the magical realism of it all. The cast is also fantastic, lead by Murray in one of his better performances of the last decade.
It's a film that won't appeal to everyone, but those who it does reach will recognize it as something special. A film about relationships, aging, and life - aquatic or otherwise, and to cap it off, there's a jaguar shark.
