Review of The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean (1972) by Valerio P — 06 Oct 2008
All I can say is, "What the FUCK John Huston!?" This movie isn't funny, though it tries to be. And it isn't the open handed bitch-slap satire of the western genre, though it thinks it is.
Instead it's a (very dated) journey back into the 1970's when Monty Python was the gold standard for comedy and everyone in Hollywood was on too many drugs. The only explanation for the wandering, bizarre, and plain stupid script are the hundreds of blunts the writers must have taken to the dome while crafting this piece of cinematic strangeness.
I wanted to watch a Paul Newman flick in honor of the late, great actor. Too bad I settled on this.
