Review of The Life and Hard Times of Guy Terrifico (2005) by Jennifer A — 27 May 2010
About halfway through this movie I turned to my friend and asked "hey. is this real?" he said "no, of course not.".
I was fooled for the first half. i've never been a fan of country music so I figured that guy terrifico was a legitimate country music legend that I had never heard of. once I learned the truth, I started to appreciate this film a lot more. it's at least written well enough to appear truthful. it's not the greatest mockumentary i've ever seen, but it's still fun to watch. watching guy go through the standard rock star phases of partying, finding god, finding love and getting killed proved to be a far more enjoyable journey than you'd expect. matt murphy portrays terrifico as a likeable train wreck with surprisingly good tunes. the fact that real life country legends were shown talking about him was really cool. it helped make terrifico seem a lot more real, at least until the movie ended.
