Review of The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (1943) by Adrian B — 11 Dec 2010
"The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp" is a very good film...in certain places. The technicolour under Pressburger and Powell's direction is explosive and beautiful, and it holds up very well over the years.
The fact it is a satire on a long-running comic strip is quite neat and the chemistry among the cast members. The score as well is quite good. My major problem is the length and the amount of script within the picture.
It is excessively long at more than 160 minutes and I had wish there was more action from the war periods, specifically WWI. The characters talk too much for their own good. However, it is a still good film, though not one of the best under Powell and Pressburger.
